Champion

Today is the long awaited semi-final and finals of the intra-university volleyball games. The game was scheduled to start at 1pm today. This morning I woke up at 10 which was already quite late and by the time I finished my breakfast I was already quite late and I prepared quite a lot of food. I was afraid that I couldn’t finish it but in the end I manage to finish it with the fear of having appendicitis for doing sports after such a short time after breakfast.
Never mind that though, we were due to play the first match which is against “Putra” a foot ball team which always participate in the volleyball matches yearly. Although they do not have much experience in playing volleyball their defense is quite good as they can use their legs to save the ball before it touches the ground. After a intense and adrenaline rushing match with them we manage to win them with a score of 2-1 (14-21, 21-7, 15-12).
The next match was against the rumored champion team, “Rambutan Tigers”. This team consist of 3 male university volleyball team member, 1 female team member and 2 housemates. As in our house we train volleyball during our free time so the other 2 also play quite well.
As our aim was to win every match that was against a non-university volleyball team member group and we have achieved it, we were just in a pay the best you can mode. Therefore, we weren’t as tense as we used to be in all the previous matches.
The 1st match started and we were leading at first but the opposite team called time out to break our rhythm. After that they started to catch up and the scores were quite close. When the scores were too close for comfort and they started leading I opted to call for a time out to break their tempo. As time was limited the referee changed the rules and told us that we were able to use only 2 time outs in each game. With that, we played on and won with a very close score of 21-19.
Then upon wining the first match, our spirits were soaring high as we didn’t expect to do so well against their team. And I think as they were rumored to be the champion team they were a little disappointed and had some tension. This allowed us the play better while they made a lot of mistakes. We took advantage of the situation and had a very good lead from the start till the end. We won and became the champion of this year’s volleyball match with the 2nd’s match score of 21-7.
Man, were we so happy that I felt that tears of joy almost fell off the corners of my eyes. I want to apologize here for not trusting my teammate’s ability and would like to specially give my outmost thanks to the team captain Han and the most outstanding player in my team which is David. Thank you for making it possible for us to get the gold medal!
We then had a small dinner outing together though it was a self paid dinner. But me and the captain decided to invite all the players over for a treat on dinner this Wednesday night but that would be a story for next time.
For now, I would just like to celebrate and enjoy this feeling of triumph !!!
